Website – we are now only using the Play Cricket site.

2. Secretaries Report

  1. DBS checks for captains – Richard Burling wrote to clubs where at least one captain had been without a DBS check throughout 2016. This included our 2’s and 3’s:

“It is an ECB requirement that all regular adult team captains must have a current DBS check. SHPCL constitution provides that where a regular captain plays without a cricket DBS clearance he is deemed to be unregistered player and penalties will be applied in accordance with 13(f) (i) and (ii). However, the committee has decided not to apply those penalties in retrospect for season 2016, but to impose penalties for breaches relating to season 2017. Therefore, from 1st May 2017 if the 2016 captain (team listed below) or their successor do NOT  have a current ECB DBS check, then the SHPCL Results Coordinator will immediately impose a penalty of 30 (thirty) points on the said team plus, additional points deduction will also be made during season 2017, as per constitution rule 13f i) and ii). For your clarification The regular captain is the person named on SHPCL website, therefore any change in captain and the club should IMMEDIATELY update their information on SHPCL website.  Also, the SHPCL constitution states “that the committee may discipline clubs under constitution rule 7 d), or match rules, or for failure in any way to conform to the required standards of the League”. (see handbook or website for full constitution). For information on how to apply for a DBS check see your Club Welfare Officer.”

ACTION: Shaun Flook and Sharon Martin to ensure the 3 captains for 2017 all have a valid, appropriate DBS.

  1. Ground hire 2017 (Tim)

  • 3rd XI square to be available to Finchley 3’s when not in use by us.

  • Sundays – Finchley Gunns, Rosslyn and Archway Ladders to use ground on Sundays.

The meeting commended Tim Lane on getting the ground hire sorted out so well and so early, thus securing essential income.

  1. Club Merchandise – this is all available via Kalibazar or the baggy, hooped caps will be available from Brad Lane prior to the season for £25. The Kalibazar website is to be promoted via the Play Cricket site, Facebook, Twitter and a Winter Newsletter that will be sent out via email by Shaun Flook.

  1. Cup competitions – due to poor availability in recent years the club will not enter any cups in 2017.

  1. Post season dinner – 25 November – Bakes update please. All trophies must be located!!

  1. New scorers / umpires – training courses are available for anyone that wants to become qualified to score or umpire. Contact Shaun Flook for details.

  1. Promotion to Championship – in order to qualify for promotion to the Championship we have to complete a facilities self-assessment audit by 1st January, following which the league might do a visit. We have been advised by the league that promotion will not be possible unless we apply for Club Mark.

ACTION: Shaun Flook to discuss with Mike Sibley re: Clubmark.

  1. Treasurers Report

Apologies issued by Richard Baker – account looks okay, maybe £4000 at year end, full accounts at spring meeting. Tony and Chris Palmer paid in subs/fees on the night.

  1. Fixture Secretaries Report

Abdul was not present and supplied no report but Brad has arranged some pre-season fixtures. On 29 April 1’s will host and 2’s will visit Cockfosters. Brad is looking into one fixture at Winchmore Hill the previous weekend.

  1. Welfare Officers Report

Sharon Martin sent apologies but informed the meeting that she will not be able to continue in her role if the DBS issues raised at item 2a are not fully addressed and resolved, which she is willing and able to help with for now. The meeting agreed that this will be done properly.

  1. Captains Reports

1st XI (Bradley Lane) – an excellent all round squad effort saw the 1’s promoted yet again. Only 23 players were used vs 26 in 2015. 11 players played 8 or more, 2 played 16, 1 played 17 and 3 played every game. The playing facilities were felt to be as excellent as always with the other sides in the league agreeing according to the scores for facilities on the league website.  The meeting acknowledged the brilliant work of the grounds crew.

2nd XI (Bats sent apologies) – came third despite very inconsistent availability and “fillers in” featuring. 44 players were used and only 6 players played 8 or more times. Key players were injured and in recent years several key 2nd XI players have retired or stopped at a young age. A real recruitment drive is needed.

3rd XI – came third despite 3 winnable games being missed through concession (2 by us, one by the oppo). Only 23 players used with great availability from a core of senior pro’s.

  1. Election of officers (need to update Play Cricket site):

  • Club President – Alan Davidson has been replaced as Head Teacher at the school and so the new head teacher, Hannah Nemko is our new President.

ACTION: Shaun Flook to write to Hannah Nemko to welcome her as our President and explain what this entails.

  • Club Captain – Ken Rowswell was voted in again.

  • League Rep – Tim Lane was voted in again.

  • 1st team captain – Bradley Lane (captain) & Chris Palmer (vice) were both voted in again.

  • 2nd team captain – Andy Battersby stood down and Umair Atta was voted in as new captain. Rohan Patel was considered in his absence.

  • 3rd team captain – Alan Hunter stood down and Ian Tyler was voted in as new captain.

  • Association Rep – Robert Hatrell was voted in again.

  • Fixture Sec – Abdul Rimaaz was voted in again.

  • Welfare Officer – Sharon Martin was voted in again.

  • Cricket Force – Tim Lane was voted in again

  • Cricket Development – this is Mike Sibley who sent apologies. Since the meeting Shaun Flook has asked Mike if he wishes to remain in this role.

  • Treasurer – Richard Baker is willing to stay on but may seek to hand over the reins in the future.

  • Social Secretaries – Shaun Flook, Brad Lane and Ralph Lane.

  1. Tour Sunday 28 – Tuesday 30 May 2017

Earlier in the year 33 people said 80% likely to go. The accommodation the club can arrange will be the Wensum Valley Hotel (golf resort) where B&B for single room is £59, and for a twin/double/etc = £42.50 pppn

Sunday fixture is TBA, on Monday we play  Reepham & Salle and on Tuesday we play Great Witchingham.

Transport – Pete Salisbury will sort this.

  1. Fantasy League 2017

Shaun Flook will run an Old Owens Fantasy Cricket League in 2017. Details to be provided at the dinner and via a Winter Newsletter. There will be a small fee (£10) for entering a team, with modest prizes available.
