Mr Colin John Williams passed away on 23rd December 2020, aged 88.
Colin was a much loved and respected teacher at Dame Alice Owen’s School from 1957 in Islington to 1991 in Potters Bars.
He was acting Headmaster at Potters Bar, overseeing the building of the new School, often holding staff meetings on the bonnet of his car!.
During his 34 years of service at the School, as well as teaching his main subjects of Latin and Greek, he also taught History, Religious Education, English and School History with first year pupils.
His detailed chalk blackboard drawings drew much attention and as Fire Officer, his famous cardboard flames would appear anywhere in the School during fire drills representing a blocked exit, forcing pupils to find another way out. He enjoyed many trips to Harrock House, often accompanied by his ever supportive wife Ann.
He was also very involved in the writing of the updated version of ‘The History of the School’.
In 1993 he was honoured with the Freeman of the City of London by the Worshipful Company Of Brewers to recognise his long service to the School.
His daughters Mary, Jane and Helen all attended the School in Potters Bar.
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and teacher throughout his life, Colin will be very sorely missed.
