  • Anna is currently finalising the gallery and ‘interest hubs’ sections (e.g. with images from the archives) and also the news blog (with articles people have sent Anna and some written herself) which will replace the old style twice yearly newsletter.
  • The owenians.com shop, business directory and  members club sections will ‘go live’ once the site itself has been up for a few months (i.e. when numbers of active members have grown, and of course, we are able take online payments).
  • Soft launch (for owenians.com with its initial features, i.e. News, networking, galleries, clubs and communications (via the attached database) is planned for w/c June 14th. Anna requested if a few Committee members can test the workings (i.e. TL/AH/IB/RH & VT).
  • The shop will need to be virtually stocked before its launch (we currently only have the 400yrs history book to put into it, but Anna would like to add at least some tankards to the offering, i.e. once enough funds /sponsorship to purchase initial stock have been raised).
  • Anna is currently looking for a main site sponsor (hoping to achieve £1,000 per year and is going out to breweries primarily in the hope, ‘one will bite’!)
  • Launch event update (13th November 2021) all dinner tickets have been sold. One table allocated to OOASC and one to Derek Webb (still needs payment). Other sales revenue is sitting in the school’s account and  in a PayPal holding pool ready to be transferred out to the new fund account. Sponsors for remaining aspects of event being sought (e.g. Bar/ menus)
  • Bar running needs to be discussed (offer to JLC Owen’s?)

  11. AOB

  • Late news – 01/06/21 – Dishwasher in bar has broken down irreparably (cost around 2K).

 12.              Date of next meeting

  • Meeting ended at 22.04 pm.
  • Next meeting scheduled for July (TBC).

Minutes of the Full Committee Meeting held on Monday 12th April 2021 at 8.00pm
online on ZOOM.

In attendance:   I.Breeze(IB), Richard Hattrell(Richard), Rob Hattrell(Rob), A.Hunter(AH), P.Kennedy(PK), T.Lane(TL), V.Tanner(VT), Derek Webb (DW), A.Welsford(Anna), John, Lynn & Ed Clark (JLC)
(TL chaired the meeting with AH taking the minutes).

 1. Apologies:            P.Riley, K.Rowswell, A.Ward

2. Bar and Catering (John/Ed/Lynn Clark)

 JLC stated that the Club has re-opened for outdoor service only (Wednesday to
Sunday) under Government guidelines. A Marquee with a heater available if needed
has been erected in the Car Park for use by members. From the 17th May
indoorbookings can take place (Table of 6 or 2 Households allowed).

From the 21st June functions can restart indoors (JLC has first booking on 3rd July 2021).

JLC are looking at the possibility of doing pre-booked lunches/teas when the Cricket season commences and maybe barbeques for Junior Cricket.

3. Matters arising from previous minutes 1st March 2021

The 4 lights that were not working in the Car Park have been fixed

4. Finance (Richard Hattrell)

Richard distributed reports for Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet accounts as at 31st March 2021 and Forecast Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet account for year ending 31st July 2021. Richard stated that we are looking at a small surplus at year ending 31st July 2021 which is good news in the circumstances.

The rentals from Football Clubs hiring pitches have been received totalling £6,549.

We appear to have received a further grant of £15,357.29 from Welwyn and Hatfield (Richard is awaiting paperwork confirmation).

The balance at the Bank as at 31st March 2021 is £78,866.06.

Richard suggested the need to look at JLC rent payments now that the Clubhouse has re-opened. Richard to put a proposal to JLC that they pay a third of the full rental in April and May, half the full rental in June followed by the full rental from July onwards,

Richard investigated the possibility of monies due from Business Interruption but was certain that we did not qualify.

VT enquired whether the monies that we receive from Pitch Hire from Clubs covers the expenses in the running and maintenance of the Ground. Figures suggest that expenses are covered.

Richard will monitor the monetary situation in July with the aim of reimbursing Eamonn for the Pavilion windows project (£1,711).

5. The Ground (TL/IB)

IB reported that the Football pitches were played on in the last 2 weekends and the Ground has held up well due to the weather. This weekend (i.e. 17th April) is the last for Football at the Ground.

A bit of re-seeding work is needed near the Barbeque area where the Marquee resided.

It was agreed that a ‘catch net’ for pitch 1 should be purchased (Approx. £500) for the start of the next Football season.

TL reported that a 1st cull of Rabbits had taken place with a 2nd cull due at the end of April.

TL has had a quote of £4,050 to extend the Patio area by 7m x 3.5m (TL to investigate whether the work can be done sooner rather than later).

6. OOASC Sports Clubs

6.1 OOFC Football Section (Paul Kennedy)

PK reported that Football is back but in a state of chaos (i.e. Fixtures situation is unsure). Owens 2nd XI are still in the Cup but Owens 3rd XI has ceased Football for the remainder of the season. 17th April is the last Football fixtures at the Ground

PK to check the situation with regard to players’ payment of Association subs for the season.

6.2 OOCC Cricket Section (Tim Lane)

TL reported that Cricket starts at the Ground on the 24th April with a 2nd/3rd XI team playing a friendly match against Winchmore Hill. The Saracens League matches start on the 8th May and finishes on the 4th September.

Working party to be organised for this weekend 17th/18th April for repairs (e.g. sightscreens, covers etc.)

6.3 Affiliated Clubs (Phil Riley)

No report from Potters Bar United.

7. OOASC Membership (Alan Hunter)

£2,246.50 has so far been collected for membership subscriptions as at 12th April 2021 from 22 Associate & 121 Full members. There are a total of 18 Honorary & 201 Life members and 14 lapsed members (consisting mainly of retirees) to this period. Nothing has been received as yet from the Football Club for membership subs (Last season we received payments from 82 players totalling £1,606).

8. Old Owens Website (Alan Hunter)

AH is updating the website as and when necessary.

AH provided statistics for the website as at 12/04/2021 as follows:
Last 7 days there were 509 visitors with 2,186 visits
Last 30 days there were 2,003 visitors with 6,947 visits
Last 365 days there were 47,430 visitors with 245,080 visits.

(Visitors and visits were higher than previous stats due to the Club now re-opened and Football back).

9. ZOO Club (Alan Hunter)

Zoo Club balance as at 12th April 2021 is £586.85.

No prize draw was held at the meeting.

10.            Old Owenians Alumni/OOASC relationship (Anna Welsford)

Anna met Hannah Nemko (School Head) and Peter Martin (Chair of Governors) to put forward the proposal of using the OOASC as the vehicle for running Owens Alumni (TL to draft a letter to Hanna and Peter to back up the proposal). Anna is currently setting up the Alumni website and the plan is to merge the members of the School Alumni with the members of the OOASC onto one platform. Before the website can be up and running a Bank Account for the system will also need to be set up. Anna is aiming for completion of the website by the end of May.

Anna stated that she already has about 100 takers for the Owens Alumni Members Club Launch Event scheduled for the 13th November 2021.

11. AOB

11.1 Appointment OOASC Director(s)/Trustee(s)

Richard pointed out that in the OOASC Articles of Association we did not have the sufficient numbers of Directors to satisfy the criteria. TL proposed Richard to be a Director of OOASC which was agreed by the meeting. Richard will put paperwork in place for the Articles.
