Old Owens Cricket Club Tour 2012 – Report

The OLD OWENS CRICKET CLUB contingent for the 2012 Tour to Norfolk from the 3-5 June (coincedently the same weekend as the Queen’s Damond Jubilee), consisted of a total of 28 personnel during the 3 days which included players, wives, girlfriends and siblings. The whole party stayed at ‘The Old Brewery House’ in the Market Square, Reepham, Norfolk opposite the ‘Kings Arms’ pub, which is run by Peter Salisbury a former Dame Alice Owens School PE Teacher and was handily placed for staggering back to the hotel after the pub festivities.

This years tourists that stayed at the Hotel or travelled up for a day were Keith Freeman, Abdul & Kas Rimaaz, Alan Hunter, Ken & Grace Rowswell, Tim, Fiona & Ralph Lane, Vincent, Sally & Stephanie Tanner, Tony, Debbie & Chris Palmer, Chris & Tom Dowty, Cian & Gareth Lumb, Rick & Sharon Martin, Shaun Flook, Daniel St Clair, Adam Clark, Michael Dawson-Goody, Keith Saunders, Upali Perera and Lewis Hollet.

Fixtures on the tour consisted of matches against North Elmham C.C. (a brand new fixture which was unfortunately cancelled due to the weather), Reepham & Salle C.C. (5 mins. drive from the Hotel) whose president Jim Everton is a former Old Owens Cricket Club ‘Legend’ and Great Witchingham C.C. (East Anglian Premier League side approx. 30 mins. drive from the Hotel).

All fixtures were 40 overs each side.

Results of the matches were as follows:

Sunday 3 June 2012 v North Elmham C.C.                 (Match Cancelled)

Monday 4 June 2012 v Reepham & Salle C.C.            (Old Owens won by 42 runs)

Old Owens won Toss and decided to bat:

Old Owens 193 – 7 (40 overs)                (C. Palmer 102, R. Lane 42, L.Hollet 17, M. Dawson-Goody 16*)

Reepham & Salle 151-3 (40 overs)           (R. Dawson-Goody 2-5, D. St. Clair 2-23, A. Sutton 2-34, S. Flook 2-41)

Tuesday 5 June 2011 v Great Witchingham C.C.        (Old Owens won by 59 runs)

Old Owens won Toss and decided to bat:

Old Owens 187 – 5 (40 overs)              (A. Rimaaz 69*, S. Harwood 45, R. Lane 16, D. St Clair 14, T.Lane 9*)

Great Witchingham 128-10 (40 overs)   (U. Perera 3-22, A. Hunter 2-11, R. Lane 2-22, M. Dawson-Goody 1-35)

In the evening after the matches the party gathered in the ‘Kings Arms’ to have dinner and drinks and to reflect on the match, which included the administering of fines for any misdemeanours during the day, which was very ably performed by Shaun Flook and fledgling Ralph Lane (in the abscence of Andy Battersby) to every one’s merriment.

Sincere thanks to Keith Freeman, Abdul & Kas for doing a great job in organising the Tour. I know a lot of hardwork and effort was put in this year especially as the dates clashed with the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the lack of members of the club who were unable to attend this year (So “well done” Keith, Abdul and Kas).
