OOASC Full Committee Meeting 10th June 2024 – Minutes
Minutes of the Full Committee Meeting held on Monday 10th June 2024 at 7.30 pm in the Les Williamson Room at Old Owen’s Sports Ground.

- JLC update (John Clark)
- JC reported that the Bar and Food takings for May were a little bit down compared to April but was thankful for a Party and a Wake that boosted the takings. There will be a Quiz Night arranged soon and an Elvis Night in October. JC stated that Padel Tennis attendance is increasing and is feeling very positive with regard to the Club as a whole.
- The new air conditioning system is working fine and no other problems currently exist.
- Matters arising from previous minutes 15th April 2024
- Finance (RH)
- Richard reported that as at 31st May 2024 there was a deficit of £9.1k due to a substantial amount of money spent on materials & renovations to the Ground. There is currently £112k in the HSBC account, £11.2k in the Barclays account and £10.6 in the Owenians Alumni account. Richard stated that the Accounts have been finalised and filed.
- The only Football pitch hire outstanding payment is £150 for Enfield Youth.
- Alan Davison has been removed from the Bank Mandate for the HSBC account and Richard has been added as a signatory. The daily transaction limit for the HSBC account is £15k.
- The Ground (AW/TL/IB)
5.1 Ground Contractor – Ward Amenity (IB/AW)
- AW reported that the spring renovations have been successfully completed. Extra work has been done on the pitches with 160 tons of sand together with seed at costs of circa £12k. A Pitch report is required for June & October for the Football Foundation grant (AW will provide photos and a report to the Football Foundation)
- The dimensions of Pitch 1 needs to be extended, roped off and with a compulsory spectator barrier due to Old Owens F.C 1st XI being promoted to the Herts League Premier Division next season.
- AW stated that he will fit the sockets for the new rope system to keep spectators off the Cricket Square for no charge and will arrange to dig in the sockets for the compulsory spectator barrier, relocate the football goal sockets on Pitch 1 all for no charge, except for the costs of the materials required.
- AW agreed that he would dig out the ditch for no charge so long as the Club bears the cost of the appropriate digger.
- AW has a moving water sprinkler system that will cater for Pitch 1 as well as the main Cricket outfield.
- AW will purchase a replacement roller for the Quadraplay at the Ground.
- AW will liaise with Jon Robinson (Old Owens F.C secretary) to apply for any funding that might be available for the Ground (e.g. new goals, catchnet poles, ground improvements etc).
5.2 Electrical Installation (TL)
- TL stated that we’ve had a report done on the electrics in the Clubhouse and Ancillary Buildings & Areas and there are a variety of issues existing. These issues need to be tackled as soon as possible as we do not have an EICR compliant certificate which is a requirement for our Insurers.
Gus Taylor (Electrical Contractor) will be giving us a quote for the works required. Estimated time for the works required will be about a week.
5.3 Padel Tennis Lease (TL)
- The Padel Tennis Lease has been signed by all parties. Payments will be made in April and October (We have received the payment for April).
- HN stated that there is a School Fest on the 30th June2024 and asked if there were any flyers available for Padel Tennis. TL will liaise with George (Padel Project UK) to provide some flyers.
- OOASC Sports Clubs
6.1 OOFC Football Section (PK/IB)
- PK stated that it was looking likely that an Old Owens 5th XI team will operate next season in the SAL.
6.2 OOCC Cricket Section (TL)
- Junior outdoor training is taking place on Mondays at the Ground. Junior matches for all age groups have been in action. Training and matches have been impacted by the adverse weather.
- The 1st XI has played 5 games in the Premier Division, won 2 lost 3.
The 2nd has played 5 games in Division 5A, won 2 lost 3.
The 3rd XI has played 5 games in Division 10C, won 3 lost 2.
The 4th XI has played 2 friendlies, won 0 lost2.
- 2 new Cricket Nets adjoining the Padel Tennis Courts are in action. The Cricket Club might hire out the Nets at some point but would need a recognized Coach on site.
6.3 Affiliated Clubs (Malcolm Oakley)
- No report from PBU as Malcolm was absent from the meeting.

- The website is running smoothly and updated as and when necessary. The statistics for the website as at 10/06/2024 are as follows:

- ZOO Club (AH)
- The balance in the account as at 10/06/2024 is £959.35 (which includes £55 owing to the Harold Moore Luncheon Account).
A draw was made at the meeting by HN.

10.1 An AGM meeting has been scheduled for Monday 23rd September 2024 at 7.30
pm at the Ground.
10.2 The School (HN)
- Hannah reported that the Sports Hall needs replacing and conversations are ongoing with the Brewers and F.E. ClearyTrust to obtain funds (circa £1 million) towards a new Sports
The School is seeking to obtain further grants from other bodies to put towards any remaining costs of the Sports Hall.
- Emma Day (Alumni Manager) has left and will be replaced by a new manager who will commence in September 2024.
- There have been 30 offers from Oxbridge universities for Owens School students. Sport at the School has been excellent in Football, Cricket and Athletics. The School is also National Badminton Champions.
- Hannah has asked if there could be more interaction from Old Owens Football and Cricket with the School especially via Social Media (e.g. photos, videos & reports).
