A. Davison Although retiring from his post as Head of the school, Alan is going to stay on as Chair of The OOA Committee for one more year.
Report from John and Lynn Clarke
Bar and Food figures produced (see separate attachment).
May 2016 being an exceptionally good month behind the bar (£25,476.62 income, where the current average in 2016 is approx £17k pm!) This was due to customers from Potters Bar Town FC being unable to use their own bar due to renovations. They duly moved their custom to Old Owen’s.
Food sales are significantly down due to some functions and lettings preferring to supply their own food.
John and Lynn are satisfied with the amount of custom and events they have presently. Quiz nights are organized at three monthly intervals and they have been well attended.
They reported that the sign advertising OOA to the public at the bottom of the drive needs attention.
Finance
AD – The Brown Shipley Bond is now active. We have set aside a proportion to cover the changing room renovations in order to match fund the £35k applied for from The Football Foundation.
VT – The tractor gearbox still needs repairing and money needs to be set aside for this significant bill. We are still awaiting an accurate quotation for this.
Catering and Alcohol: Already discussed and figures presented by JC and LC. (see attachment.)
Car Parking
Lorries from the recycling yard are not allowed to park in the car park and IB had reported this to Craig Curtis who replied with the following:
“Oh dear this is bad news, did the committee know that we own the freehold of the road?”
There is no threat to our free access. As yet IB has not yet called Mr Curtis, but will set up another meeting in October along with AD to discuss this further. Meanwhile we are receiving no income from the car park which is used by approximately 10-12 cars belonging to Mr Curtis’ paper recycling staff.
AOB:
IB – Paul Kennedy is now Chair of OOFC.
Steven Forwell is now Secretary of OOFC.
Anthony Mann is now treasurer of OOFC.
The 125th Anniversary dinner is taking place at Enfield Chase Hotel on 17th September, “Club Day.” We have sold 100 tickets at £55 each. We need to sell 150 to break even. The venue can hold 200 guests.
AD – Andrew Ward (attended Owen’s 2004-2011) to join the Full Committee in a non specific role. (His main interest being grounds and machinery. This was welcomed and it was noted that the ground was currently in excellent condition and the ground manager and Rick Martin were doing a very good job.
AD – There may be a pending appointment at the school who may be persuaded to assist in the refurbishment project at OOA.
SR – Reported that PBU will be running a female football team, U.16’s on Sunday afternoons at the ground next season. This was seen as a very positive development.
AH – Reported a lapse in the membership numbers. He is going to attempt to rectify this by contacting a lot of the more long standing members by post rather than e mail.
The new website is being developed and AH has received the first draft.
AH carried out the draw for the Zoo Club:
1st Prize – £200 – V.M.Cross
2nd Prize – £100 – PG Llewellyn
3rd Prize – £50 – CE Law
DW – Several of us had attended Brien Martin’s funeral. Our condolences are sent to his family. Without Brien’s efforts the sports ground and clubhouse in PB would not exist. Should we now seek to name the clubhouse after him? This idea was welcomed and Derek is going to speak to Shirley, Brien’s widow.
Meeting closed at 8.32pm
